“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”     – Jeremiah 29:11

Betty Foy Botts’ work is a dialogue between her spirit, the spirit of God and the spirit of her subject matter.  It is a journey that has a beginning and an unknown ending. The ending is only discovered through the physical act of painting. As Betty puts paint on the canvas, it begins to take on a life of its own, dictating the colors and shapes. Like a metamorphosis, the painting is transformed, taking on life and spirit. This is a mystery that only the “spirit” knows. Betty is simply the vessel. The hardest part for Botts is to separate herself from her work and relinquish control. She attempts to separate her cognitive or intellectual thinking in favor of reacting and responding on an intuitive level.
